TS (5)About Todd A. Sinelli

Past. I grew up in Michigan, got educated on the East coast, wrote books on the West coast. I have traded in the financial markets in Chicago, done missionary work in Italy and have worked as a professional magician, director of international expansion for a restaurant brand based in Dallas and have even served as the director of counseling for a mega-church. During the summer of 2015, I performed 207 magic shows for Christian camps, churches, Chick-fil-A family nights and private parties and over 230 shows for 2016. In 2017, I’m focused on quite a few “new” things. Details below . . .

For most of my life, I have been a trader. For nearly 20 years, my primary vocation and avocation was as a trader.

My story in brief is this: Broke at 24. A millionaire at 25. A multi-millionaire by 26. Practically broke again by 28. Before the age of 30, I literally made and lost millions of dollars trading.

I specialized in trading equities and options at the CBOE (Chicago Board of Options Exchange) and for personal and private capital clients with a hedge fund that I managed in California and then in Dallas.

Now, I am in my 40’s and I am still a trader at heart; however, I am doing a lot of things different.

We make trades every day with our time, money and resources. Yet, how many of us really know how to trade? And how many of our trades really yield a profit in light of eternity? In Isaiah 48:17, this is what the Lord says, “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you how to profit, Who leads you in the way you should go.”

The Bible tells us that “all Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable” (2 Timothy 3:16). It is here that we will find treasures everlasting ascribed by the Creator of all things for whom we exist (Revelation 4:11). It is here that we will learn how to be profitable traders.

Have you ever considered the pattern of traders and trading from examples found in the Scriptures (Romans 15:4)? Consider a few of these examples of great and horrible trades.

Worst traders:

  1. Judas and thirty pieces of silver for handing Jesus over – Matthew 26:15 / Profit or Loss? Destruction of his own life.
  2. Esau traded food for his birthright and future inheritance – Genesis 25:29-34 / Profit or Loss? Despised his brother and lived a life of anger.
  3. Samson traded the secret of his strength for pleasure from a woman Judges 16:15-22 / Profit or Loss? Ended up being placed in bondage and costing his life.

Best traders:

  1. Joseph – corned the grain market and saved lives – Gen 39:2
  2. Little boy traded his lunch to feed 5000 – John 6:9
  3. Moses – forsook the temporary pleasures and riches of Eqypt to be with the people of God – Heb 11:25
  4. Widow – put in two small coins, went “all in” on Jesus – Luke 21:1-4
  5. Peter & disciples – they left everything and followed Jesus – Luke 5:11, Matt 19:27
  6. Isaac sowed and reaped hundredfold in one year – Genesis 26:12
  7. Jesus – He became poor to make us rich – 2 Cor 8:9

For me:

  1. I trade the riches of this world for the riches found in Jesus (Colossians 2:2-4). My mind is reset, renewed and restored to how it was created. Profit – personal
  2. I trade being seen as a fool in this world to be found faithful in God’s world (1 Corinthians 3:18). Profit – eternal
  3. I trade my thoughts and ways for His thoughts and ways (James 1:27). Sponsoring children through Compassion International and locally through Vogal Alcove in Dallas. Profit – everlasting
  4. I trade the lies of this world for the truth from God (Rom 1:25). Hebrews 13:4 – honoring marriage and no sex before. Profit – purity and peace
  5. I trade all that I have for the opportunity to receive what He gives (Mark 8:36). Profit – beyond comprehension

  1. Satan trades you truth for lies (Rom 1:25).
  2. Constantly offered worldly pleasures vs eternal pleasures, like paradise(Luke 23:43).

In the trading world, the currency of value is cash. In the spiritual world, the currency of value is Christ. In all our worlds, the stewardship of time is incredibly valuable from a temporal and eternal perspective.

I have been living in deception and have been deceived by hasty speculation (Pr 21:5) and it has caused much pain in my life. We are instructed to ask God for two things (Pr 30:7-8). One is to ask that lies and deception be kept far from us. The other is to neither have too much so as to forget God or to have too little and consider stealing.

I have traded my past profession for a whole new profession. I am still a trader, but now I work in an entirely different mindset and manner. Ever heard of The Great Toddini ?!

Present. Magic. I am currently focused on magic. I think we all need a bit of magic in our lives. When we combine — Fun + Family + Faith = Fabulous Moments.

The Bible says laughter is good medicine (Pr 17:22). After doing 100’s of magic show performances, I found myself laughing and being refreshed in a way that no amount of money could provide. King Solomon says there is a time to laugh (Eccl 3:4) and the wife in Proverbs 31 is said to “laugh at the future.”

We can make a difference in the lives of others just as someone made a difference in your life at some point. The magic of making a difference can come by acknowledging that person who helped you when you were down. Or, perhaps just saying “thank you” to your staff who put in that little bit of extra on the project. Maybe you want to bring a smile to your spouse or grandparent to let them know they have truly made a difference in your life. If so, the Great Toddini would love to be that messenger.

Keeping and holding the attention of a seven-year-old is a far more formidable challenge than keeping the attention of a seventy-year-old; however, the same principles of engaging an audience still apply.

During this season of life, I am reaching more and more people than ever before by bringing some laughter and levity into their life. As promised from Proverbs 11:25 that he who refreshes others will himself be blessed. So, so true and a new season of refreshing has come into my life.

Education. Academically, I have a BBA from Michigan State University, an MBA from the University of Dallas and have studied at The Wharton School’s Executive Education Program. I also have a number of professional certifications including: Certified Fund Specialist (CFS), Accredited Asset Management Specialist (AAMS) and have completed the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) course. Additionally, I am a certified biblical counselor through the National Association of Nouthetic Counselors (NANC) and chose not to finish my Master’s in Divinity when living in California. I am educated beyond my intelligence!

I believe the fulfilling life, the abundant life and the life of faith truly rests in following Jesus while seeking His Kingdom first. These principles are simple to understand, but difficult to live out for almost everyone. As I grow in the knowledge of God my life becomes simpler and simpler – to glorify Him in all that I do (1 Cor 10:31).

I have spoken to audiences ranging from students at the Harvard Business School to international franchise presidents in Macao, China and have given presentations to colleges, churches, and conferences ranging in attendance from 30 to 3,000. Yet, I still enjoy the small group model of discipleship and love seeing lives transformed through the simplicity and power of engaging others in conversations about the Scriptures.

My love for learning and continuous growth combines education, experience, and expertise into books and presentations that are distinct and different. With every message, my prayer and hope is that each person learns something new and they are excited to share that new insight with others.

Things I really enjoy are: tennis, travel, and all things Italian. Personally, I have lived in Detroit, Chicago, Northern California, Nantucket, Italy and I am currently living in Dallas, Texas.

Todd created a few companies that are under the Lit Torch Group, Inc. umbrella.

Lit Torch Publishing

Lit Torch Publishing was created with the belief that words, spoken and written, have the power to change lives. Our brand promise is that the books and presentations produced through LTP will allow you to learn something new and you will become excited to share what you learn with others.

With six books under title offering insight on topics ranging from the parables of Jesus, eternal riches, how to have eternally significant conversations and how to biblically counsel someone with fibromyalgia, there is something for everyone in this collection.

The spoken and written words of God are powerful and eternal. Thousands of years ago, Jesus walked among us and said, “I am the Light of the world; whoever follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life” (John 8:12). And He encouraged us all to, “let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven” (Matt 5:16). If each one of us who had the light of Christ shining in us looked to share that light with others, soon the world would be filled with a beautiful glow.

Let there be light . . .

Lit Torch Counseling

Lit Torch Counseling & Coaching focuses on solving problems and leveraging your strengths. Counseling focuses on identifying and assessing what is wrong. Coaching focuses on positioning and maximizing what is right. We use a biblical soul care model of counseling with the Bible as the primary tool. The Scriptures provide “everything we need for life and godliness” (2 Peter 1:3). It is important to understand this basic first step and to embrace the essential elements for each session which combines truth and grace through a Christ-centered approach (John 1:14).

We believe

  • questions inspire us to become wise in God’s eyes
  • the smallest good deed is greater than the grandest good intention
  • we learn more from failure than from success
  • education continues forever
  • godliness with contentment is great gain
  • life’s toughest problems teach us the most
  • words can heal
  • words can hurt
  • words can help
  • in Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection
  • we have much to learn
  • it is better to try something and fail than to try nothing and succeed
  • things you cannot give away, you do not possess. They possess you.
  • after a certain number of years, our faces become our own biographies.
  • whoever learns, must study
  • it is more blessed to give than it is to receive
  • it is better to light one candle than it is to curse the darkness
  • life’s greatest moments are yet to be . . .

May the books and presentations from Lit Torch Publishing impact your life beyond what you could ask or even imagine as you let the light of God’s Word shine through your life.
